Concise Tafseer of Suratun - naas (114) Shaykh As-sa`adiy

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

وهذه السورة مشتملة على الاستعاذة برب الناس ومالكهم وإلههم، من الشيطان الذي هو أصل الشرور كلها ومادتها، الذي من فتنته وشره، أنه يوسوس في صدور الناس، فيحسن [لهم] الشر، ويريهم إياه في صورة حسنة، وينشط إرادتهم لفعله، ويقبح لهم الخير ويثبطهم عنه، ويريهم إياه في صورة غير صورته، وهو دائمًا بهذه الحال يوسوس ويخنس أي: يتأخر إذا ذكر العبد ربه واستعان على دفعه.فينبغي له أن [يستعين و] يستعيذ ويعتصم بربوبية الله للناس كلهم.وأن الخلق كلهم، داخلون تحت الربوبية والملك، فكل دابة هو آخذ بناصيتها.وبألوهيته التي خلقهم لأجلها، فلا تتم لهم إلا بدفع شر عدوهم، الذي يريد أن يقتطعهم عنها ويحول بينهم وبينها، ويريد أن يجعلهم من حزبه ليكونوا من أصحاب السعير، والوسواس كما يكون من الجن يكون من الإنس، ولهذا قال: { مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ } .

This chapter of the Qur'an explains the concept of seeking refuge in the Lord, King and God of mankind from the Shaytan who is the foundation of all evil. He whispers into the heart of mankind as part of his trials and evil to beautify evil deeds for them. He presented sin and evil deeds in an appealing form and encourage them to do it. He demonizes righteous deeds and make it repulsive for people to do. He presented them in a negative form to discourage people from doing them. Shaytan is always working in this mode.

Shaytan whispers but withdraws when a servant of Allah remembers his Lord and seek Allah's refuge against him. It is incumbent upon a servant to seek refuge and protection with the Lordship of Allah because all creatures are under His Lordship and Dominion. All creation take from the provision He has made for him as He created them to worship Him alone. It will be incomplete if protection against evil and their enemy, who wish to dissuade them from sincere worship, create a barrier between them and the essence of creation and make them his soldiers to make them amongst the inmate of hell, is not under the Lordship of Allah!

Evil inclination and whispers come from both mankind and Jinn.

Lessons learnt

* Shaytan is the enemy of mankind and will try to lead them to destruction by making evil appealing to them.

* Evil and good are best defined by the Allah. Qur'an and authentic Prophetic narrations are the most authentic sources of guidance.

* Allah is merciful. He created mankind also protect them against evil in addition to sustaining them and directing their affairs.

* The only reliable source of protection is through sincere belief in the Lordship of Allah and directing acts of worship to Him alone. Shaytan will withdraw from manipulating Muslims that have firm belief in the oneness of Allah and remember Him in words and action.

* Shaytan can misguide mankind and he can be among the Jinn and human beings.
